Tomato Lake in Kewdale is a beautiful oasis in the middle of suburbia. There is a lake, and no it does not resemble a tomato in any way. There is a great stretch of grassed picnic area around the lake, with heaps of shade from big trees. There are bbqs, picnic tables and a couple of gazebos.
The Tomato Lake Alfresco Coffee Stop is the name of the cafe, it is a small but great cafe/kiosk that has a dine in section, with some tables out on the grass. Note - It is not open on Mondays or Tuesdays (except on public holidays). It does breakfasts, light lunches (including fish and chips), coffee and cake and takeaway icecreams and drinks. We had a very nice coffee.
The playground is a steel structure traditional playground with softfall under the main area and a sandy area with two digging toys. There is great shade, a huge shade sail covers the whole playground.
Across the grass a bit from the playground is a spacenet, a climbing rope structure which is great for older kids (the sign says 5 - 10 year olds). If you have adventurous toddlers you will need to stand under the net and help them get down when they get stuck.
